Bottom (Possible Character Background)

Bottom (Initial Character Background)

In this portrayal of A Midsummer Night's dream the Mechanicals (Bottom, Snug, Flute, Snout, Starveling and Peter/ Petra Quince.) are to be portrayed as bin men, mirroring the original text where they are portrayed as the working men of Athens.

For Bottom I am drawing inspiration from Certain performances of Working class people, for example I'm drawing an up an idea from the sitcom of Come Fly With Me from David Walliams performance as a baggage handler.

Certain aspects can be taken from his performance as well as the costume that both Walliams and Matt Lucas use for the baggage handling sketches. Walliams uses a loud non-articulated voice which is slightly monotone which I feel would be A good choice for Bottom as he is a brash yet slightly dull character in how he speaks. Much of the costume can be taken from this too e.g the high visibility jacket and possibly the gloves that Matt Lucas is using in the picture above (right).

Some grime might be good to add to the character to give an idea that Bottom has just come back from work before Unit 5 as it is set in a pub (to be cont. in Unit 5 entry)
